Jacobi, John Christian, a native of Germany, was born in 1670, and appointed Keeper of the Royal German Chapel, St. James’s Palace, London, about 1708. He held that post for 42 years and died in 1750. Among his publications are Psalmodia Germanica . . . translated from High Dutch.1
He has translated:
1 Wie soll ich dich empfangen
29 Zieh ein zu deinen Toren
30 O du allersüßte Freude
35 Wach auf, mein Herz! und singe
82 Ist Gott für mich, so trete
84 Befiehl du deine Wege
99 Sollt’ ich meinem Gott nicht singen

In the 17th Century this term was current for “High German.” ↩
